At the Vienna International Engine Symposium (24 to 25 April)
Volkswagen presented the production version of the BlueTDI. One of a
new generation of turbodiesels, this engine has been developed
especially for North America. The common rail engine is based on the
high-tech TDI introduced in Europe in 2007 and first installed in the
Tiguan. The European engine already meets the limits of the Euro 5
standard, which will come into force in autumn 2009. The four-cylinder
unit has been especially re-engineered for specific USA operating
conditions with modifications within the engine and a NOx storage
reduction catalyst.
