Automaker Daimler AG, which sold most of its
stake in Chrysler earlier this year, posted a loss of 1.53 billion
euros (US$2.18 billion) for the third quarter, largely because of
writeoffs related to the deal.
Analysts had expected a loss, given the Chrysler sale. The
company reported a profit of 868 million euros a year earlier.
Excluding the charges related to Chrysler, the company said it would
have posted a profit of 1.1 billion euros ($1.57 billion).
