FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) _ The Mercedes Car Group of
DaimlerChrysler AG saw its pre-tax profit nearly double in the
second quarter, the German-American automaker said Wednesday.
The company said the Mercedes unit earned 1.2 billion euros
(US$1.65 billion) in pre-tax profit in the second quarter, up from
690 million euros a year earlier. Second-quarter sales rose slightly
to 12.56 billion euros ($17.26 billion) from 12.5 billion euros a
year earlier.
The company did not report results from the Chrysler Group and
Chrysler Financial because of their impending sale. DaimlerChrysler
provided no update on the deal.
The world's fifth-biggest car maker by sales announced in May
that it would sell an 80.1 per cent stake in the Chrysler Group to
Cerberus Capital Management LP.
The discontinued activities of Chrysler Group and Chrysler
Financial will be included in a complete interim report due on Aug.
